Redeeming the COVID-19 Quarantine

These are unprecedented times! Most of the world has never lived through anything like we are experiencing right now. We don’t know what will happen. We don’t know how long the quarantine will last. We don’t if we will get the virus ourselves. It’s easy to be glued to the news, fearful of what will happen.

But for the vast majority of the world, the chances are that in the future we will get back to work, back to life and these events will be a distant memory.

It’s easy for us to complain about being cooped up inside at the moment but have you thought that this quarantine may not actually be a curse, but a blessing? We have time to rest, time to reevaluate life, time to work on our relationship with our family, time to talk over the phone or video with those that we haven’t spoken to for years. You know that to-do list of things around your house that has needed to be done? You wish you had a little extra time to complete it but life is always so busy. Now’s the time! How about that book that you’ve wanted to read or that art that you’ve wanted to create? We’ve been handed a gift, the gift of time.

For some, this time may be particularly frightening because of the dangers of getting sick. This too can be a blessing. Our lives are often so distracted and full that we don’t have the time or desire to consider the purpose of our life and the preparation of death. I would challenge you to consider your life purpose. What things in life do you need to change to redeem this short life that we have on earth? Consider taking a moment to consider what would happen if you contracted COVID-19 and died. What would your epitaph say? What would people say at your eulogy? And even far more importantly, where would spend eternity? If you don’t know, but would like to know, I’d encourage you to watch this video that can give you hope for this life and the next.
